This painting grew out of a single moment of watching how bodies settle into one another when the initial heat has passed, leaving only a heavy, shared exhaustion. I was thinking about the weight of a limb when it is completely relaxed, and how that stillness can feel more demanding than movement. I wanted to capture the exact point where two people stop being separate entities and become a single, blurred shape of skin and shadow. It began with the memory of a gesture—a hand resting in the curve of a neck—not as an act of passion, but as an anchor against the feeling of drifting away.

In the studio, I found myself working the oil until it felt like the heat of a body held too close for too long. There is a friction in the way the colors bleed into each other, a thinness in the paint that mimics the vulnerability of being seen without any defenses. I left some parts of the canvas almost raw, like a bruise that hasn’t quite formed, because intimacy is never a finished thing. It is a constant, quiet dissolving—a sense of being present in the room but losing the hard edges of yourself to someone else’s touch. When I stepped back, I realized the work wasn’t about the act of loving, but about the weight of staying.
